Renowned journalist Antoni Bassas delivered a lecture this Tuesday at the Trade Center in Sant Cugat del Vallès, addressing the current credibility crisis in journalism.

The event, organized by the Aula d'Extensió Universitària, analyzed how information overload and social media have altered the perception of reality. Bassas argued that truth in journalism is the honest attempt to present the closest version of facts, contrasting it with the global spread of lies enabled by modern technology.

"They kill us because we are uncomfortable witnesses to what is happening and what power wants to hide."

Regarding artificial intelligence, the journalist warned that tools like ChatGPT can be useful as support but never as a replacement for human judgment. According to Bassas, without a solid foundation of prior knowledge, users are unable to ask the right questions or truly understand the answers generated by these algorithms.
Finally, he emphasized that credibility is not achieved instantly but is a long-distance race based on daily rigor. He criticized the current trend of seeking quick impact and defended the role of journalists as essential elements for the health of the democratic system.
