The Atenea Bookstore in Terrassa has reached its 100th anniversary, remaining a cornerstone of the city's cultural and commercial heart in Gavatxons street since 1924.

Founded by siblings Maria and Josep Datzira Matarrodona, the shop started as a combined bookstore and newsstand. It played a vital role in the city's history, becoming the first local distributor for the newspaper La Vanguardia and even offering home delivery services during its early years.

"We had delivery men who went on foot through the Center with bundles of newspapers on their backs."

Engràcia Datzira i Mas · Second generation of the bookstore
Over the decades, Atenea has hosted art exhibitions by renowned artists like Antonio Saura and expanded its literary collection under the guidance of Antoni Díaz Tapias. Today, the third generation, led by Magda Díaz and Alberto Cerdán, continues to resist the digital era through personalized service and a deep connection with the local community.
