The campus lawn, usually filled with university students, was crowded this Thursday with a sea of black t-shirts bearing the message "From school to university." These young students, too young for degree courses but full of energy, experienced the day like true university students. "I really liked it and was surprised by how big it is. Maybe in the future I can study here," commented Houda, eleven years old, one of the participants.
The initiative, organized by the Fundació Autònoma Solidària (FAS), brought together students from nearly twenty schools in municipalities such as Sabadell, Terrassa, Cerdanyola, Rubí, and Montcada i Reixac. The Croma 2.0 program allowed these children to explore the campus and present research projects they had developed with support from UAB research teams. "They were very motivated," celebrated Aina Úbeda, a Psychology student and participant in the initiative.
Over thirty young university students, on internships or volunteering, participated in this edition, aiming to spark interest in knowledge among 5th and 6th graders from socioeconomically vulnerable backgrounds. Through workshops, group dynamics, and study support, the 11 and 12-year-olds receive guidance. "Many had never visited before. They have no frame of reference for the university world, and the program is very positive," highlights Manoli Moledo, a teacher from Escola Serraparera.
The projects presented at GREDICS, CRAG, INc, and ECP covered diverse topics such as peace, mutant plants, emotion robots, diversity, and sexuality. "When you listen to them, it's impressive to discover the arguments they have," asserts Elsa Espinosa, coordinator of the Socio-educational Area at FAS.
The day concluded with the presentation of challenges and a shared lunch on the lawn. "Being here is fantastic. I would like to study Medicine," noted Sabrin, from the Sant Llorenç del Munt school in Terrassa. The CROMA program aims to accompany and provide educational and emotional support to minors, instilling in them the conviction that the university world awaits them.
