The socialist group PSC in Sant Cugat del Vallès rejected the potential annexation of Bellaterra this January, deeming the operation incomprehensible given the current service deficiencies.

The PSC made its position public after the Sant Cugat municipal government presented a report that did not oppose the possible territorial integration. Socialists point out that the complaints from the Plataforma Bellaterra és Sant Cugat regarding the lack of maintenance are fully applicable to Sant Cugat neighborhoods such as Les Planes or La Floresta.

It is an inconsistency that can only be understood in an electoral context.

According to the party's statement, the incorporation of Bellaterra would not bring any benefit to Sant Cugat, but would rather further expand an already extensive and dispersed municipal area. Bellaterra has an approximate surface area of 2.7 square kilometers and between 20 and 25 kilometers of sidewalks requiring attention.
The PSC warns that the current urban services in Sant Cugat are already overwhelmed and that adding this new area "would harm the neighborhoods of Sant Cugat". Furthermore, the party questions the economic viability of the annexation, as Bellaterra is primarily residential and lacks industrial or tertiary activity that could act as an economic driver.
