The municipal group of Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya (ERC) in Terrassa will promote a proposal in the next plenary session to establish more rigorous commercial regulation, aiming to safeguard local businesses and prevent the saturation of certain types of establishments.

The initiative by the republicans seeks to address the complexity of the current commercial model, without stigmatizing any specific business type, but rather seeking a balance in the offerings. They have emphasized that the commercial reality is dynamic and requires constant analysis, recalling that similar saturation situations were experienced in the past with sectors such as insurance or mobile phone case shops.

"When Terrassa's commercial hubs are not very different from those of other cities, because everything is increasingly homogeneous and similar, what ends up losing is the city."

the republican spokesperson
The republican spokesperson has expressed concern about the growing concentration of low value-added commercial activities, which, according to her, foster speculation, weaken local trade, and impoverish the citizen experience. This situation is attributed to a
To reverse this trend, ERC proposes several actions. Firstly, the creation of an exhaustive commercial census integrated into the City Council's studies, allowing the identification of areas with an excessive concentration of similar businesses. Subsequently, a special plan for commercial uses would be drafted with objective criteria, such as minimum distances between establishments.
In addition to organizing the offer and promoting strategic activities, the application of temporary moratoriums on licenses is not ruled out if preventive action is needed. A councilor recalled that the City Council already has experience in similar regulations, such as that of banking entities on Carrer Major or the recent limitation on the opening of petrol stations.

"The best time to regulate things is when you don't have problems; when you have problems, they've already overtaken you."

a councilor
The councilor insisted that the objective is not to oppose entrepreneurship, but to guide the urban development of the city to foster quality experiences and reduce pressure on commercial rental prices. He highlighted the importance of anticipation, as, although Terrassa is not in a critical situation like other municipalities, it is essential to act before problems arise.
Additionally, ERC will bring two more proposals to the spokesperson's board. One is support for the manifesto to dignify the conditions of volunteer firefighters, who often operate in Terrassa from nearby parks. The other is to urge the Generalitat de Catalunya to exercise its right of first refusal and redemption over the altarpiece of Santa Maria de Toudell, requesting agility to declare it a national interest asset and that it be fully exhibited in the museums of Terrassa or Viladecavalls.
