The main objective of this initiative is to reinforce the heritage, educational, and identity value of this protected historic building, which dates back to the early 20th century and was transformed into an educational facility in 1989. The estimated investment for this project amounts to approximately two million euros.
The competition seeks a proposal that will update the building and adapt it to contemporary needs, while preserving its industrial essence and heritage value. The intervention will focus on the structure, environmental comfort, improvement of facilities, energy efficiency, and sustainability.
“"We want to give the ESDI community, both alumni and current faculty, the opportunity to present their ideas."
The university center, which offers interior design education, encourages its alumni and faculty, many of whom work in architectural firms, to participate in the competition to contribute to the building's evolution and strengthen its presence on the Gran Via.
The selection process will be divided into two phases. Initially, candidacies will be chosen based on a dossier of previous experience and technical capacity, with particular emphasis on experience in the rehabilitation of heritage or industrial buildings, educational facilities, and the inclusion of professionals specialized in heritage. Subsequently, the selected teams will develop a comprehensive proposal that integrates technical, constructive, and sustainable solutions, consistent with the identity of ESDI. The competition is expected to be resolved around June 22.
