Families, schools, and citizens of Barberà del Vallès will mobilize on June 17th in front of the City Hall to demand urgent measures against high temperatures in educational facilities.

Concern over classroom air conditioning has intensified in Barberà del Vallès, where families from various educational centers have called for a meeting on June 17th at 6:30 PM in front of the City Hall. The aim is to highlight dissatisfaction with the alleged lack of response to the issue and demand immediate solutions for the unbearable conditions faced by students and teaching staff.
Sources from the PTA of Escola Marta Mata indicate they have been fighting since 2021 for adequate measures, such as air conditioning systems or awnings, without success. The installation of four portable air conditioning units has been deemed an insufficient pilot test, given the persistent extreme temperatures and medical reports warning of heatstroke and other related health problems.
The local government, through a climate commission, has acknowledged the problem. Education Councilor Daniel González stated in February that interim measures would be implemented before the end of the academic year, although the tender for air conditioners is still ongoing. Meanwhile, the performance of the portable units is being positively evaluated, and a review of the pilot test is expected for the next term. The Generalitat also plans to install fans at Escola Miquel Martí i Pol.
The organizing families, tired of unfulfilled promises, have filed various complaints with Labor Inspection, the Ombudsman (Síndic de Greuges), and the Ombudsman (Defensor del Poble). Despite protest actions and participation in municipal plenaries, the situation remains stalled, directly affecting the health and well-being of children and educational staff since 2021.
The call to the public seeks to gather support for this demand, urging urgent actions to guarantee dignified and safe conditions in the educational centers of Barberà del Vallès, anticipating a heated day in the municipality on June 17th.
