The Department of Agriculture confirmed this Thursday five new positive cases of African Swine Fever (ASF) in wild boars located in Sant Cugat del Vallès and Sabadell.

These new cases bring the total number of confirmed infections to 232 since the outbreak began. The Catalan Government has intensified testing in the Vallès Occidental region, although 208 other animals tested this week returned negative results.

"The Government has already invested nearly 24 million euros since the health crisis began and we will mobilize all necessary resources to eradicate the disease."

Control operations led by the Agents Rurals have resulted in the capture of 2,365 wild boars within the infected zone. Across Catalonia, more than 22,000 boars have been culled since January 1st as part of a strategy to lower population density and stop the virus from spreading to livestock farms.
Strict restrictions remain in place for 17 municipalities, including Barcelona and the Collserola Natural Park. Citizens are banned from entering forests, riverbeds, and rural paths to prevent the accidental dispersal of infected animals.
