The situation of the Can Vernet shack in Sant Cugat del Vallès, which caused alarm last September, is now awaiting a judicial decision, halting the demolition process initiated by the City Council.

The fate of the small building located next to the Can Vernet bridge in Sant Cugat del Vallès remains uncertain as a judicial resolution is awaited. This shack became a source of neighborhood concern last September, following an incident where a man photographed minors near the area.
Although the Sant Cugat City Council began procedures to reclaim this public space and proceed with its demolition, the execution of this measure is subject to the judge's decision. The municipal plenary session of October 2025 ratified a mayoral decree ordering the administrative recovery of this green area, where the approximately 20-square-meter building is used as unauthorized housing.
The council required the occupants to vacate the shack and planned for its subsequent demolition. However, to carry out the eviction, a judicial entry authorization is essential. The case was placed in the hands of the judge at the end of 2025, and no resolution has been issued to date.

We believe that the condition of the shack and the person living there generates insecurity, both for the neighbors and for the park, and even for the person themselves.

A resident of Mina Street has expressed the persistent concern of the neighbors, as the situation has not been resolved. The concern focuses on both the condition of the building and the situation of the person residing there. According to the municipal decree, the 20-square-meter shack was occupied by two people without permission and presents structural deficiencies, including a fibrocement roof with possible asbestos presence. Furthermore, it is located in a potentially floodable area according to the Civil Protection map.
The decree also establishes that Social Services will monitor the people occupying the shack and, if necessary, provide them with a housing solution in accordance with the emergency table regulations. Once the eviction occurs, municipal services will remove the asbestos with an authorized company and proceed with the demolition of the building, returning the space to its original state.
