The alert for African swine fever remains active, and with the arrival of Easter Week, authorities have decided to intensify preventive measures. The Catalan police are urging citizens planning outdoor activities to respect the established restrictions to prevent the virus from spreading beyond the high-risk zone.
“"The intensive police presence responds to a desire to raise public awareness, rather than to sanction."
Deputy Inspector Iolanda Candel, head of the Citizen Security Unit of the Mossos d'Esquadra in Cerdanyola del Vallès, emphasized that the primary goal of the police presence is awareness. However, she warned that actions such as removing or vandalizing containment elements could lead to economic sanctions and even criminal charges.
Concurrently, Rural Agents are continuing their 'sanitary vacuum' efforts for wild boars in the outbreak's 'ground zero.' They have established a third containment barrier extending north to the B-40, between Abrera and Terrassa. Efforts focus on searching for and removing carcasses, capturing live specimens within and around the infected area, and encapsulating Collserola to prevent further spread.
Recent data indicates that in the last week, 268 wild boars have been captured within a 20-kilometer radius, and three positive cases have been confirmed in the high-risk zone. The Department of Agriculture had previously announced plans to delineate a third barrier on the other side of the Llobregat river to reinforce containment.
