Data on registered unemployment and Social Security affiliations in Catalonia, recently published, reveal that Terrassa ended April with a total of 11,213 unemployed individuals. This figure represents a decrease compared to the 11,514 jobless people recorded in March.
This downward trend is not exclusive to Terrassa, as much of Vallès Occidental has also seen improvements. For example, in Sabadell, the number of unemployed decreased by 208 people, from 10,734 in March to 10,526 in April. Other municipalities such as Matadepera (-4), Vacarisses (-8), Viladecavalls (-4), and Castellbisbal (-13) also saw their unemployment figures reduced. However, Ullastrell (+1) and Rellinars (+1) experienced a slight increase. Across the region, Vallès Occidental closed April with 40,630 unemployed, 969 fewer than the previous month.
At the regional level, Catalonia has reached a new record with 3,921,134 people affiliated with Social Security, the highest figure in its historical series. The increase in employed people has been 76,918 compared to the previous year (+2%) and 38,360 compared to March (+0.99%). Furthermore, the number of unemployed people in Catalonia decreased by 11,190 in April, 3.4% less than a year ago, placing the total figure at 314,527. This is the lowest registered unemployment figure since June 2008, and the monthly decrease has been the most intense in the last six years, with 8,949 fewer unemployed people than in March.
