Matas' decision comes during a period of internal friction with the local executive led by Francesc Baró. The councilor has publicly denounced the blocking of thirty potential new members who intended to support his candidacy, describing the situation as a lack of democratic standards within the party.
“"It seems very serious to us that a party that wants to be democratic acts in this way. They are creating lists of good and bad people."
The political conflict has escalated with a disciplinary file opened against Matas and councilor Katia Botta for alleged party indiscipline. Matas claims this is a strategy to remove him from the race, asserting that his team has followed all party mandates since leaving the local government coalition.
