The “Dijous de Mútua” initiative reaches its 24th edition with a conversation on sleep apnea, led by Dr. Javier Bara, head of the Maxillofacial Surgery Service at the MútuaTerrassa University Hospital. This will be the final meeting of the cycle before the summer break.
The cycle, which began in late March, has established itself as a benchmark event in Terrassa, with nearly twenty-five years of history bringing health topics closer to the public. The usual format includes a conversation between an entity professional and a journalist, as well as the videopodcast option, which was well-received last year.
This month's session will focus on sleep apnea, a disorder that affects sleep quality and can have significant health consequences. Symptoms include fatigue, irritability, stress, and difficulty concentrating, with potential impacts on cardiovascular health and cognitive functions.
During the event, the main causes, associated risks, diagnostic methods, and current treatments will be explained. The role of maxillofacial surgery in detection and therapeutic management will also be highlighted, emphasizing that early identification can significantly improve patients' sleep quality and overall health.
This year's program includes seven conversations. After the summer, the cycle will resume with topics such as the stigma of mental illnesses, advance directives, and diabetic foot, issues selected based on social interest and needs identified by MútuaTerrassa professionals.
