The appearance of wild animals like wild boars and rats, alongside cockroaches, has become common in Terrassa, leading to sanitation issues inside homes and safety concerns outdoors. Social media and neighborhood associations have been reporting complaints throughout the year, and August is no exception.
Early Wednesday morning, the Terrassa Municipal Police had to intervene to corner a family of wild boars that had descended into the urban center, settling in a garden area in search of food. These animals, considered potentially dangerous due to African Swine Fever (ASF), are driven into the city by food scarcity and restrictions in the Green Belt.

Data compiled by BCN Plagas and ADEPAP reveals historic peaks in pest incidence in Terrassa, with 95% of alerts related to cockroaches and rodents. This upward trend has continued for five consecutive years, with an 81.5% increase in cockroach interventions during 2025.
The city center and historic core are the most affected areas, particularly old buildings and locations with a high density of hospitality establishments. Recently, residents in the Vapor Gran area reported the presence of a rather large rat on Portal Nou street.
The Terrassa City Council reminds the public of the importance of denying these animals access to food by maintaining cleanliness around waste containers and avoiding leaving food scraps on the ground or in accessible areas. They also emphasize that it is strictly prohibited by law to feed them.
