The Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and the Computer Vision Center have created the spin-off BrainMapp, a digital platform designed to assist medical teams during brain tumour surgeries.

The technology enables the precise identification of brain regions linked to essential functions such as language, movement, and cognition. The system facilitates the real-time recording, organisation, and visualisation of data generated during surgical procedures, integrating it with preoperative images like MRI scans.
The project was developed in collaboration with the neurosurgery department at Bellvitge University Hospital and the Cognition and Brain Plasticity research group at IDIBELL. To date, the tool has been used in 31 neurosurgical procedures, 19 of which were performed at the Bellvitge hospital.

"Our goal is to help neurosurgical teams keep this information organised and accessible within a single environment, making it easier to monitor brain mapping and supporting more informed decision-making during surgery."

The initiative has been supported by various entrepreneurship and technology transfer programmes, including Emprèn UAB and the Barcelona Deep Tech Node. The company is currently in a development phase to expand the tool's capabilities for analysing deeper brain structures.
