The Servei Català de la Salut has recorded nearly 51,400 cases of Alzheimer's in Catalonia during 2025, of which more than 36,000 are women, according to the latest official data.

The disparity in the number of diagnoses between genders is not attributed solely to a longer female life expectancy. Experts point out that biological, hormonal factors, and social inequalities accumulated throughout life play a role in the incidence of the pathology.
From the Hospital de Sabadell, specialists highlight the complexity of this neurodegenerative disease, which does not have a single cause. However, significant progress is being made in therapeutic approaches thanks to the emergence of new drugs.
These innovative treatments aim to act on the abnormal proteins that accumulate in the brain. Although they cannot reverse the intrinsic process of the disease, the drugs allow for the elimination of these harmful elements, offering a new way to slow down the progression of cognitive decline.
