This measure, implemented by the Terrassa Town Council at the request of the Matadepera council, aims to alleviate the long queues that have been forming since last summer, especially in the mornings, due to the increasing number of vehicles using the B-40. The change also includes a few seconds' advance in the green and flashing orange light opening in both directions of circulation.
“"To optimize the capacity of both the descent and the right turn towards the B-40."
The decision was made after a study identified the exit from the Matadepera road (BV-1221) towards the B-40 as a critical point. A manual count conducted in November during peak hours recorded up to 3,500 vehicles in the descending direction and 3,000 in the ascending direction during mornings. Traffic on Lacetània Avenue, a continuation of the B-40, can reach 4,000 vehicles.
Among the alternatives studied by Terrassa's Mobility technicians, extending the traffic light cycle was ruled out to avoid increasing waiting times. The chosen option, which includes the amber traffic light adjustment, is expected to significantly improve morning peak hours. Furthermore, the current 90-second cycle has been shifted in favor of the ascending and descending directions, with 47 seconds compared to 43 for the perpendicular crossing. Soon, a permanent camera will be installed for continuous monitoring of vehicle flow.
“"The feeling it gives me, besides there still being a large number of vehicles, is that it is more fluid."
The Mobility councillor of Matadepera has confirmed greater fluidity in the journey, although the volume of traffic remains high. He also highlighted the importance of the meeting with Terrassa's teams to address this issue, which includes the future installation of the camera for traffic monitoring.
Traffic jams also affect public transport, with requests to vary the route of the M8D shuttle bus and the proposal to implement a BRCat bus lane on the Matadepera road. The increase in traffic from within Matadepera, with vehicles seeking the B-40 from the Sabadell road, underscores the need to consider Matadepera's interests in the future layout of the Ronda Nord. A meeting has been requested with the Secretary General of Mobility and Infrastructures of the Generalitat to discuss this matter.
