The traditional Ball de Gitanes in Sant Cugat del Vallès has reached a record 122 dance groups in 2026, leading to a new alternative event.

Due to the high volume of participants, 26 groups were left out of the official performance at Plaça d'Octavià. In response, the Gitanes Desoctaviades initiative was created to ensure everyone can dance on Saturday, February 14th, at Plaça de Barcelona.

"We love Carnival so much that we decided to get together, but we thought we could extend it to more people who want to dance."

This first edition includes 64 dancers and features live music from the Escola Tradicional de Música. The organizers emphasize that this is a community-driven complement to the main Sant Cugat Carnival festivities.
