Since early July, the Ca n'Anglada neighborhood has seen a significant increase in cleaning and waste management efforts. The plan, set to run throughout the summer for a projected three months, has led to a "tripling" of staff and resources dedicated to maintaining streets, squares, and bins in better condition. This municipal intervention, described as "forceful and yielding immediate results," was undertaken after an exhaustive diagnosis and in coordination with the neighborhood association.
Initial results, after just a few weeks of implementation, are positive. According to Eco-Equip's Production Manager, Elena García, a 56% reduction in service requests reported via the Cuidem Terrassa app has been observed, serving as a key indicator. Residents have also reported a noticeable positive change.
The Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Cleaning, Xavier Cardona, expressed optimism about the plan's effectiveness, highlighting that improvements extend beyond Ca n'Anglada. Similar actions have been implemented in other neighborhoods like Can Palet and Torre-sana, the role of a neighborhood sweeper has been introduced in Sant Llorenç, an intensive bin emptying campaign has been conducted, and new side-loading bins have been installed in La Maurina and La Cogullada, with expansion plans for Ca n'Aurell.
The enhanced Eco-Equip service includes eighteen additional workers, backed by an investment of approximately 200,000 euros. While these personnel will operate throughout the city, their presence will be most prominent in Ca n'Anglada, where a "significant" level of dirtiness was detected. Eco-Equip acknowledges an element of incivility but also points to the need to adapt services to the neighborhood's population density and implement structural changes.
As part of the plan, several new bins have been added, and around twenty will be replaced. Collection frequency has been doubled or tripled in certain areas. Cardona emphasized that the administration must make a greater effort to ensure the city's cleanliness, especially during summer, while residents adopt correct waste disposal habits.
The perception of cleanliness is also enhanced by the condition of the areas surrounding the bins. Cleaning and collection frequency have been increased in zones with a high incidence of bags left outside bins, abandoned furniture, and repeated incivility, including sanctions for non-compliant businesses, according to García.
Street cleaning has been reinforced with increased water usage. Pressure washing of streets and bins is being carried out, and a tanker vehicle performs nighttime washing of major avenues and municipal streets. This week will also see an increase in manual sweeping throughout the neighborhood.
