The first edition of the program Connecta amb l'alcalde, broadcast on October 6th, focused on waste management. The mayor of Santa Perpètua, Joan Carles Mingueza, held a conversation with the president of Residu Zero, Isabel Román, and representatives from the Associació de Veïns Ciutat Jardí La Florida and the entity Els Comerciants also participated.
During the discussion, the importance of waste sorting to minimize environmental impact was highlighted, and the results of the first year of implementing the closed container system were positively assessed. Despite progress, participants agreed on the need for continued effort.
Residu Zero and the Associació de Veïns de La Florida proposed that the waste tax calculation should consider the number of people per household. Meanwhile, Els Comerciants requested that businesses pay based on the waste they generate, not solely on their business category and square footage.
Mayor Joan Carles Mingueza announced that formulas are being studied to cross-reference the resident registry with the fiscal registry for households, and systems to accurately assess the volume and weight of commercial waste. He also informed about the planned replacement of trucks and street containers to include adapted levers or openings for people with functional diversity.
Isabel Román, from Residu Zero, urged the City Council to take further steps in raising awareness for waste reduction and to establish a Local Waste Reduction Plan. In this regard, the mayor confirmed that the creation of a Library of Things for citizen use is being explored.
The mayor also responded to two live calls and a complaint received via the radio's WhatsApp.
The next edition of Connecta amb l'alcalde is scheduled for October 20th, featuring a different format where the program will go out into the street to gather citizens' impressions and questions.
