Mayor Marta Farrés announced this Tuesday the construction of four new hangars at Sabadell Airport, a strategic move to consolidate the city as a leading aeronautical and innovation hub.

The new facilities will consist of four buildings of 530 square meters each, located in the northern area of the airport. These spaces are designed for aircraft maintenance and storage, aiming to attract new companies to the Vallès Occidental region without increasing the current number of flights.

"We are talking about enabling spaces to enhance training and industrial activity."

This project is part of a collaborative effort involving the UAB and UPC universities, as well as Aena and the Consorci de la Zona Franca. Plans also include improving road access to link the airfield directly with southern industrial estates and the Rodalies train station, although physical works are expected to take at least two years.
Sabadell Airport is currently a national leader in pilot training, hosting schools such as the Barcelona Flight School. The local aerospace sector already comprises 37 companies generating 100 million euros in turnover, supporting the city's ambition to grow despite delays in specific projects like the Celestia nanosatellite plant.
