The city of Sabadell is preparing to celebrate LGBTI+ Pride month with an extensive program of activities running until July 2. The initiative, named Ciutat Orgullosa (Proud City), began last Saturday with an artistic swimming exhibition and will include a historical memory event to conclude the celebration.
The VII LGBTIQA+ Pride Demonstration will be one of the highlights, scheduled for June 26. The march will start at 7 PM from Montserrat Roig square and conclude at Doctor Robert square, where a large party organized by Ca l’Enredus will take place, featuring performances by Castellers de Sabadell, the reading of a manifesto, a concert by Ruïnosa y las Strippers de Rahola, and a DJ set.
The Councilor for Equality, Rosa Pareja, has highlighted the importance of proposals from local entities and announced that the City Council will install five purple points and information panels. Additionally, Transports Urbans de Sabadell (TUS) has decorated a bus with the rainbow flag that will circulate through the city.
Pareja emphasized the necessity of these initiatives given the current social and political climate, describing it as a "reactionary offensive." Meanwhile, the vice-president of TUS, Ana Romero, stated that public transport should reflect social cohesion.
The program also includes events such as the XXIX AIDS Memorial (May 29) with a floral offering at Parc del Taulí and a performance by Julietta Pérez, the Non-binary Perreo (June 5) organized by the Associació Refugi Cultural Queer La Mandarina, and the children's show Som de colors (June 14) at Plaça de les Dones del Tèxtil.
Furthermore, workshops on Adolescence and Sexoaffectivity are planned in five educational centers, sessions for families, and classroom activities to promote respect and understanding of the LGBTI+ community among young people.
Regarding the lawsuit filed last year by the foundation Abogados Cristianos against some program activities, Councilor Rosa Pareja indicated that the case is still in court and progressing slowly, but assured that the City Council will continue with its initiatives.
