This measure, included in the draft decree from the Ministry of the Presidency, Justice and Relations with the Cortes, foresees a significant increase in the capacity of the Sabadell Court of First Instance. Currently with eight civil units, it will expand to ten, representing a 20% increase in one of the areas with the highest volume of proceedings.
The primary objective of this expansion is to reduce the existing workload and shorten case resolution times. This initiative is part of a broader deployment across Catalonia, which includes the creation of 91 new judicial units in 2026 and an additional 90 in 2027.
The civil jurisdiction, which already accounts for a significant portion of judicial activity, will gain prominence within the local structure. This growth aligns with the new judicial office model promoted by Law 1/2025 on the efficiency of public justice services, which advocates for a more flexible organization and better resource distribution.
In addition to the new units, the judicial reinforcement will be accompanied by the incorporation of more staff. The Government plans to add 300 new professionals to the Justice Administration, which will translate into more processing, procedural management, and judicial assistance officials in Sabadell to ensure the smooth operation of the new additions.
Concurrently, the proposal for reforming the city's judicial building remains on the table, designed to accommodate this growth and future expansions. All these actions aim to decongest the courts, streamline procedures, and improve citizen services.
