The Mayor of Sant Cugat del Vallès, Josep Maria Vallès, has generated significant controversy this week due to his statements regarding the 400 people evicted from the B9 building in Badalona.

The controversy stems from an interview where the mayor referred to the precarious situation of the evictees, who had been relocated to an abandoned institute, suggesting they might be “living off the fat of the land” and had been staying in a “fantastic hotel”. This assertion has been labeled as “frivolity unbecoming of his position” by public opinion.

The city's highest representative must maintain a minimum level of rigor and not dedicate himself to spreading far-right clichés against the most vulnerable while admitting he has no data.

The criticism is intensified because the mayor, a member of Junts, admitted having no data on the families' actual situation. Furthermore, the opinion article suggests that this type of discourse appears to be an attempt to align with parties like Aliança Catalana.
In the same interview, Vallès was not only unable to rule out a pact with the far-right party but also took the opportunity to attack the CUP, the leftist project that most confronts his city model. Public opinion regrets that the mayor seems to take figures like Xavier Garcia Albiol or Sílvia Orriols as references.
