The city of Terrassa is hosting a new edition of the International Choral Singing Festival of Terrassa, an event aimed at showcasing the richness and diversity of choral singing. The tradition of this artistic discipline is deeply rooted in the city, making the cycle one of the most anticipated of the year.
This year's edition, which kicked off on Thursday, July 9th, stands out for its focus on contemporary sounds such as pop, reggae, soul, and gospel, while maintaining the foundation of a cappella vocal music. The opening concert featured the mixed choir Bi Hotsak from the Basque Country, who performed a polyphonic repertoire with pop and rock influences.
Festival director Rosa Ribera explained that the remaining concerts promise extraordinary harmonies and rhythmic sounds that will transport the audience through different eras and musical styles.
On Friday, July 10th, the Seu d’Ègara will host Choir Plus, an inclusive choir from the LGTBIQA+ collective founded in Madrid in 2020. Their repertoire focuses on pop music with special arrangements by Kodiak Agüero, aiming to promote respect for diversity.
On Saturday, July 11th, at 7:30 PM, the Auditori de Terrassa will welcome the Coral Cantiga from Lluïsos de Gràcia. They will present the poetic-musical performance "El camí del desig" (The Path of Desire), with dramaturgy by Carla Coll and musical direction by Montserrat Meneses i Sendrós. The production includes literary and musical references from prominent Catalan artists and will feature contralto Mariona Llobera and pianist Laura de Arenzana.
Finally, on Friday, July 17th, the Auditori de Terrassa will host the Coro de Cámara del Colegio Nacional de Buenos Aires from Argentina. Founded in 2015 by former members of the institution, the choir will offer a classical repertoire with an immersion into Argentine and Latin American popular music, including Habaneras and folk music. Since 2019, the renowned conductor Lucas Echaniz has been leading the choir.
