A proposal by pro-Cuban groups failed to pass due to opposition from most political parties and the local Venezuelan association.

The Terrassa City Council held an intense political debate last Friday, February 28, regarding a proposal to condemn the United States military operation that resulted in the capture of Nicolás Maduro.

The initiative was submitted by the Casal d'Amistat Catalano Cubana de Terrassa and the local Bolivarian Committee. These organizations called for the council to denounce what they described as a coup d'état and a violation of international law, claiming the January operation caused over 100 deaths.

"Peace is not defended with bombs; it is defended with law, diplomacy, prevention, and mediation."

Armando Sánchez · Representative of the Casal d'Amistat Catalano Cubana
The motion failed to pass as the majority of political parties in the plenary session voted against its main points, which included demands for the release of Nicolás Maduro and Cilia Flores, and criticism of European Union inaction.
The Association of Venezuelans in Terrassa (ASOVENTE) also attended the session, protesting against the Maduro regime. They argued the motion ignored the human rights violations and the economic collapse that has forced millions of Venezuelans into exile.
