The Cobla Jovenívola de Sabadell, a musical group that has shaped the city's sound identity since its creation in 1976 by Salvador Saumoy, is celebrating its half-century of existence this year. The cobla's initial goal was to attract young musicians and address the lack of talent in the sector.
The celebrations kick off this Saturday, May 2nd, with an "exceptional sardana day" in Doctor Robert Square at 11 AM. The event will bring together about forty performers, including former members of the cobla, to form a unique "megacobla".
During the day, the commemorative sardana Tempus Fugit, composed by Enric Ortí especially for the occasion, will be premiered. The morning celebration will conclude with a fraternity lunch expected to gather around a hundred people.
The anniversary sardana dance repertoire will include several notable pieces such as Dels fillols als padrins by X. Ventosa, Octubre 2010 by O. Oller, Els primers cent anys by J. L. Moraleda, Ningú com tu by F. Carballo, Sabadell 2024 by Bernat Castillejo, Com si el cel hagués fugit by M. Artiga, Or per Sabadell by J.J. Beumala, and Aplec de Sabadell by J. Auferil.
The commemorative events for the Cobla Jovenívola's 50 years will extend until December 20th, when the traditional Sant Esteve concert will be held at the Teatre Principal. On this occasion, the ensemble will feature the collaboration of Sabadell-born soprano Maria Hinojosa, known for her performances with the Fundació Òpera a Catalunya.
