Around 5,000 teachers from across the Vallès Occidental region gathered in Sabadell this Thursday to demand improvements in the educational system and the restoration of labor rights.

The massive demonstration reached the Regional Education Services headquarters on Gran Via, where protesters used smoke and firecrackers to voice their frustration. Union USTEC reported a 70% strike turnout, significantly higher than the 29.62% estimated by the Department of Education.

"We will not sign any agreement that is not endorsed by the entire workforce in a consultation."

A major point of contention is the recent deal signed by the CCOO and UGT unions with the government. According to an USTEC survey of 42,000 educators, 95% reject the agreement, claiming it fails to address the 25% loss in purchasing power suffered since 2009.
The protest concluded at Sant Roc Square after a meeting between union representatives and director Montse Capdevila ended without concrete commitments. The mobilization is set to move to Barcelona tomorrow.
