Three New African Swine Fever Cases in Vallès and Baix Llobregat

The disease outbreak reaches 241 positive cases, with two new foci in Sant Cugat and one in Sant Just Desvern.

The Department of Agriculture has confirmed the detection of three new cases of African Swine Fever (ASF) in the high-risk zone, with two foci in Sant Cugat and one in Sant Just Desvern, totaling 241 positive cases since the outbreak began.

These new positive cases were registered over the last week, raising the total number of confirmed cases to 241. During the same period, 366 samples were analyzed, with 363 testing negative, representing 99.18%.
Wild boar captures have significantly increased, with 268 specimens culled within the 20-kilometer radius of the affected zone and 2,128 in the rest of Catalonia. Since January 1st, the total number of wild boars captured in Catalonia amounts to 26,587.

To reinforce containment measures, the Department of Agriculture plans to install a third physical barrier on the other side of the Llobregat River. Additionally, the operation is expected to grow with the incorporation of 30 personnel exclusively dedicated to carcass prospecting and 90 additional members for trap installation and maintenance.
Over the last weekend, 26 hunting drives were carried out with the participation of 515 hunters and 581 dogs. The number of wild boars captured within the infected zone has reached 3,031, half of the estimated 6,000 animals that need to be culled in this area.
