The renovation of Fidela Renom Square, located in the center of Sabadell, has been indefinitely suspended following the discovery of archaeological remains during the initial excavation phases.

The Local Government Board approved the halt of the construction contract's execution this Monday. According to municipal sources, the located vestiges require specific intervention for their documentation and evaluation by archaeological services.
Such discoveries are common in Sabadell's historic core. Last summer, for instance, works on a premises in Passeig de la Plaça Major uncovered remains of one of the first houses in the medieval town, a stately 12th-century building with large silos, indicating agricultural activity and the presence of affluent families.
In the case of Fidela Renom Square, the characteristics of the remains have not yet been disclosed. Specialists will work in the coming weeks to identify them, as they often provide valuable information about the city's past and the lifestyle of its ancestors. The city council expects that the works on the children's leisure area can resume before summer, once these archaeological interventions are completed.
The renovation of Fidela Renom Square began in late January, after an initial tender was unsuccessful. The project, with an investment of approximately 680,000 euros, aims to significantly expand the play area by incorporating an adjacent plot. Initially, the work was estimated to last about eight months, but the archaeological surveys may alter the planned schedule.
