The Ripollet City Council has launched this week a new service for collecting used cooking oil through seven specific containers installed in different parts of the municipality, thus integrating into the regional system of the Consorci per a la Gestió de Residus del Vallès Occidental.

The new containers, orange in color, are designed for the separation and collection of vegetable oil used in households, such as frying oil or oil from preserves. It is reminded that this waste should not be poured down the drain to avoid problems in pipes and water pollution.
To use the service, the oil must be cooled, stored in a tightly sealed plastic bottle, and placed inside the orange container, without pouring it directly. The collected oil is transported to a treatment plant for recycling into biodiesel.
The seven containers are located at Nostra Senyora dels Àngels street (corner with Creu Roja), Verge de Montserrat street (in front of Tiana de la Riba school), Lluís Millet square (in front of Josep M. Ginesta school), Estació street (corner with Balmes street), Canigó street (corner with Sant Esteve), Sant Andreu street (corner with Padró street), and at number 5 of Sarrià de Ter street. Used oil can also be taken to the municipal waste collection point.
During this week, information points with environmental agents will be set up to explain the service's operation. These points will be at Plaça de Pere Quart (in front of the Municipal Market) and at CAP II – Pinetons on Wednesday, November 4; at Plaça de Pere Quart and at Parc del Riu Ripoll (access to Cerdanyola footbridge) on Thursday 5; and at the corner of Estació and Nostra Senyora dels Àngels streets and at Plaça de Pere Quart on Friday, November 6.
In parallel, information will be distributed to households and institutional communication channels will be used. The collection and maintenance of the containers are carried out by the Centre Especial de Treball CIPO, on behalf of the Consorci.
