The City Council of Rubí has transformed a disused former fishmonger stall at the Municipal Market into a new rest and tasting area, aiming to improve the shopping experience and reinforce the facility's social role.

This initiative is part of the Redissenyem Mercat (Redesign Market) project, which seeks to reclaim underused commercial spaces, upgrade facilities, and offer new services to invigorate market activity. The new area is designed as a meeting point for customers and stallholders, providing a place to take a break, rest, and sample local products.
The renovation was inspired by a project by student Berta Asensi Capdevila from the Municipal School of Art and Design (edRa), who envisioned a space for tastings, product presentations, and general commercial promotion activities, as well as a permanent rest area. The final space incorporates the uses, materials, and colors proposed by the student, with a particular emphasis on wood to create a comfortable environment.
The works included the demolition of the old stall, sanitation of floors and walls, renovation of electrical installations, and the installation of tables, benches, seating, and charging points for mobile devices. Non-slip flooring, wooden cladding, and a new lighting system have also been installed, with a screen planned for future installation. Additional improvements were made to the flooring in the surrounding area of the former fishmonger section.
The Redissenyem Mercat project received a grant of 10,000 euros from the Consorci de Comerç, Artesania i Moda de Catalunya (CCAM), as part of the 2025 call for support for improving the competitiveness of sedentary and non-sedentary municipal markets.
