The annual results for CaixaBank reached 5,891 million euros, surpassing the previous year by 1.8%. The entity explained that the environment of falling interest rates in 2025, which automatically reduced customer mortgage payments, was offset by business growth not seen in 15 years. This effect was reflected in a 3.9% drop in the interest margin.
“"We have revised upwards the growth and profitability targets we had set in our Strategic Plan."
The bank's CEO, Gonzalo Gortázar, stressed that the business increase was unrelated to the market situation generated by the hostile takeover bid by BBVA for Banc Sabadell. Gortázar joked that they had not “seen the troubled waters,” but had gained market share generally and not specifically from those two competitors.
Thanks to the positive performance, CaixaBank distributed 3,499 million euros in dividends last year, 15% more than the previous year. Approximately half of this amount went to its two main shareholders: Fundación La Caixa, through Criteria, and the State, through the FROB. The board, chaired by Tomás Muniesa, agreed to maintain the same dividend plan for 2026, which implies distributing between 50% and 60% of the consolidated net profit.
Regarding commercial activity, the bank attracted 390,000 customers during the year, reaching a total volume of 20.7 million in Spain and Portugal. Business volume grew by 6.9%, reaching 1.1 trillion euros. The non-performing loan (NPL) ratio stood at a minimum of 2.1% at the end of 2025, an improvement compared to 2.6% the previous year.
