Residents of Sabadell will have an unusual opportunity this week to check their sleep patterns. A specially equipped mobile health truck will be stationed in Plaça de la Sardana to provide free diagnoses, aiming to detect potential sleep disorders such as apnea, as part of a national awareness campaign.
This initiative, named Sleep on the Road, is driven by the Spanish Society of Pulmonology and Thoracic Surgery and arrives in the Vallès city coinciding with the Pulmonology Day of the Catalan Society of Pulmonology. The mobile unit will be open to everyone without the need for a prior appointment.
Operating hours will be Thursday, April 16, from 10 AM to 2 PM, and Friday, April 17, from 10 AM to 2 PM and from 3 PM to 7 PM. Anyone interested can access the unit for an initial assessment of their sleep condition.
The truck is designed to offer a practical journey to detect and understand sleep disorders. It includes a diagnostic area with beds and pillows, equipped with technology to identify indicators of apnea. Additionally, visitors can measure vital signs such as blood pressure and blood oxygen levels. There will also be a space with tips for improving rest and a final evaluation phase with questionnaires. In cases deemed at risk, a device will be provided for a home sleep study.
Almost half of the Spanish population (48%) has difficulty sleeping well. More than 600,000 people are undergoing treatment for obstructive sleep apnea, but it is estimated that nearly two million suffer from it without knowing.
Data managed by the campaign highlight the scale of the problem: nearly half of the Spanish population, 48%, struggles to get proper rest. Furthermore, while over 600,000 individuals are receiving treatment for obstructive sleep apnea, it is estimated that around two million people suffer from it unknowingly. Experts warn that this disorder not only affects sleep but can also have significant consequences on cardiovascular health, metabolism, and overall quality of life.
