Joventuts Musicals de Sabadell paid an emotional tribute to the late painter and sculptor Jordi Roca i Tubau (1933-2022) on Friday evening at the Teatre Principal, under the title Un record perenne.

The event featured the participation of the Cobla Mediterrània, directed by Bernat Castillejo, accompanied by mezzo-soprano Marta Valero and percussionist Joan Torras. The centerpiece was the dramatized reading of Roca's poem, Gesta èpica d’arrels profundes, performed by rapsodes Enric Arquimbau, Gisela Figueras, and Biel Rigol.

"It is a truly special, extraordinary day, which would have meant a lot to him. It already meant a lot to him when this work, which he dedicated to me when I turned 70, premiered in Gisclareny."

Joana Soler · President of Joventuts Musicals de Sabadell
Joana Soler, the artist's wife and president of Joventuts Musicals, provided context for the sardana Visions paradisíaques, composed by Josep Maria Serracant in 2007 and dedicated to the couple. This piece originally premiered in Gisclareny.
The Culture Councillor, Carles de la Rosa, highlighted Roca's commitment to freedom and announced that the Saló del Principal will host an additional institutional tribute on February 25. The dramaturgy of the work was handled by Jordi Lara, who shared touching anecdotes about the artist's life, including his childhood in Ripoll and his time in prison during the dictatorship.
