Sant Cugat leads gross salaries in Catalonia; Sabadell ranks above average

The Idescat study reveals that Sabadell residents earned an average gross salary of 31,852 euros in 2024, 4.8% more than the previous year.

The Statistical Institute of Catalonia (Idescat) published the territorial salary statistics for 2024 on Wednesday, placing Sant Cugat at the top and Sabadell in seventh position.

According to the Idescat Territorial Salary Statistics, Sant Cugat leads the list of Catalan municipalities with over 50,000 inhabitants, reporting an average gross salary of 54,549 euros in 2024. It is followed by Castelldefels (38,570 euros) and Barcelona (36,466 euros). At the other end of the ranking, with the lowest salaries, are Santa Coloma de Gramenet (26,003 euros), L'Hospitalet de Llobregat (26,638 euros), and Reus (26,922 euros).
Sabadell ranks seventh out of the 23 cities analyzed, with average annual gross earnings of 31,852 euros. This figure represents a 4.8% increase compared to 2023 and places the city slightly above the average for the 23 studied municipalities (31,746 euros). Compared to other cities in the Vallès Occidental region, Sabadell surpasses Terrassa (29,988 euros) and Rubí (29,558 euros), but falls below Cerdanyola (34,631 euros) and significantly behind Sant Cugat's figures.
Regarding sectoral distribution in Sabadell, financial and real estate activities are the best paid (46,961 euros average), followed by public administration and security (39,455 euros) and industry (36,194 euros). The sectors with the lowest remuneration are artistic and recreational activities (22,818 euros), transport, warehousing, and hospitality (23,434 euros), and construction (27,575 euros).
The report also highlights the gender pay gap. In Catalonia, men earned an average gross salary of 34,473 euros in 2024, while women earned 28,765 euros. This disparity is most pronounced in Sant Cugat, where the gap approaches 20,000 euros. In Sabadell's case, the difference is about 7,000 euros annually (35,217 euros for men and 28,191 euros for women), meaning men earn, on average, 25% more.
