The Ministry of Transport, the Generalitat, and ADIF signed an agreement to build two railway interchanges in Sant Cugat del Vallès, expected to be completed within three years.

The document, published on Monday, December 15, stipulates that the construction of the interchanges at the Hospital General and Volpelleres stations must be finished within a maximum of three years. Furthermore, the agreement sets December 31, 2029, as the deadline for closing all administrative procedures and the final liquidation of the project.
The division of tasks foresees that ADIF will prepare the preliminary study for both interchanges, in coordination with the Generalitat, to assess technical viability and approximate cost. Once this phase is complete, the Catalan Government will draft and tender the construction projects, which will be financed by the Ministry.

The document reserves up to 36 million euros to make the two interchanges a reality, although the final figure will depend on what the executive studies and projects determine.

These new interchanges are crucial for connecting the Rodalies R8 line (Martorell-Granollers) with the FGC S1 (Terrassa-Barcelona) and S2 (Sabadell-Barcelona) lines, facilitating a mesh interconnection. While the Volpelleres station (S2), inaugurated in 2010, was already projected with the track crossing in mind, the link at Hospital General (S1) will require more adjustments, as the Rodalies stop is further away, located in the municipality of Rubí.
