The Decentralized Municipal Entity (EMD) Bellaterra was scheduled to vote on a crucial motion regarding the annexation process to Sant Cugat del Vallès last Thursday, December 11. However, the extraordinary session was suspended due to “presidency force majeure reasons” and rescheduled for next Monday at 7 PM.
Residents gathered, deeming the personal cause cited for the postponement “insufficient.” They also complained about the absence of the EMD secretary, which prevented formal registration of the day's events. The platform argues that the EMD has failed to resolve the structural problems caused by territorial dysfunction.
“"Bellaterra has been dragging the consequences of a territorial dysfunction for years, derived, among others, from geographical barriers and undeniable territorial and public transport distance from Cerdanyola."
The spokesperson, Elisenda Clascà, pointed out that the decision to seek annexation stems from “poor access to mandatory minimum services and inter-administrative communication.” The motion, presented by Gent per Bellaterra and ERC, seeks to create a commission to design the technical report on the process.
The platform highlighted that Cerdanyola City Council has shown “fair play,” as its report admits Bellaterra's economic sufficiency and foresees no negative consequences from the potential annexation to Sant Cugat, which residents see as the “most viable and necessary” alternative.
