The Unió Esportiva Sant Cugat (UESC) officially joined the SantCugatCreix project on Wednesday, reinforcing the initiative with the city's largest basketball club and adding nearly 6,200 total athletes.
The adherence of UESC, the city's largest basketball club, culminates a “long courtship” and arrives at a moment of “consolidated wills,” according to the promoters of the SantCugatCreix project. The announcement was made public this Wednesday during a press conference in Sant Cugat del Vallès.
“
"UESC brings us a part that was missing: a very large club, with a strong presence in the city and a very clear solidarity and inclusive aspect, which fully aligns with the values of Creix."
With this incorporation, SantCugatCreix now totals nearly 6,200 athletes and adds two new sports to its structure: basketball and table tennis. The president of UESC, Vicenç Beltran, defended the need to “shift the focus away from the clubs' navel-gazing and understand sport as something more essential.”
“
"The daily routine of the clubs absorbs us a lot, and Creix deserved attention that we have only recently been able to dedicate. But I had always been clear that we would end up being part of it."
Looking ahead to 2026, SantCugatCreix plans to deploy five European projects, renew its board, and organize the Congress of Sport, Business and Knowledge on March 19, 20, and 21, linked to the EMCA assembly, which will bring top-level European clubs to Sant Cugat.
Among the highlighted initiatives is also Periscope, an artificial intelligence-supported tool designed to help coaches and entities manage behavior and move towards a model of good governance that is “current, modern, and adapted to the reality of each club.”
