The commemorative act in Sant Cugat, held at the council building, was led by Mayor Josep Maria Vallès and gathered around forty people. Attendees included councilors from all political parties represented in the plenary, City Council employees, and individual citizens.
The tragic accident occurred last Sunday evening in Adamuz (Córdoba), when an Iryo train traveling from Málaga to Madrid derailed and encroached upon the adjacent track.
An Alvia train traveling from Madrid to Huelva was operating on that track, resulting in a collision. The provisional toll of the disaster stands at 39 fatalities and dozens of serious injuries.
Following the incident, the government led by Pedro Sánchez canceled most of the agenda scheduled for this Monday. Furthermore, the Generalitat of Catalunya offered the assistance of Protecció Civil (Civil Protection) to manage the emergency situation.
