This evening, the lake in Betzuca Park in Sant Quirze del Vallès will be illuminated pink to join the celebration of World Breast Cancer Day. This initiative by the City Council aims to show support for affected individuals and their families, and to highlight the importance of prevention, research, and treatment of this disease.
Early detection is key to improving the prognosis of breast cancer, as it allows for the identification of the disease in its initial stages, when treatments have a higher chance of success. The Department of Health of the Generalitat de Catalunya offers a free screening program for women aged 50 to 69, including a mammogram every two years.
Prevention also plays a fundamental role. According to the European Code Against Cancer, habits such as maintaining a healthy weight, engaging in regular physical activity, limiting alcohol consumption, and breastfeeding can help reduce the risk of developing the disease.
With this action, Sant Quirze reaffirms its commitment to awareness and health promotion, aligning with global campaigns to raise visibility for breast cancer.
