The multinational company Nidec Motors & Actuators Spain has confirmed the closure of its plant in Santa Perpètua de Mogoda, which has been operational since 1998, putting the job security of around one hundred workers at risk.

The decision from Nidec's management was communicated to a representation of the workforce, who met with the mayor, Joan Carles Mingueza, and the Councilor for Local Development, Business, and Employment, Laura Oliver, at the City Council on October 16th. The meeting served to highlight the situation of the employees, who have been fighting for their jobs for months.
Councilor Laura Oliver stated that "the Nidec workforce is experiencing this closure situation with sadness, resilience, indignation, and struggle," emphasizing the employees' cooperation with the temporary employment regulation files (ERTEs) that have been ongoing since 2020. The City Council has facilitated meetings with the Catalan Government's Department of Business and Labour to explore potential aid formulas and is offering its free Local Development services to help workers understand available resources.
The Santa Perpètua factory, located at the Can Sabau roundabout, has been crucial in developing automotive motors for the entire group. The workload will be transferred to the multinational's plants in Poland, India, and Serbia. The works council had negotiated a labor guarantee plan, but they now face layoffs. This is a particularly challenging situation for employees who, in many cases, have dedicated their entire working lives to the company and are at an age that complicates finding new employment.
