David Otero's decision became effective last Wednesday during an extraordinary meeting at the association's headquarters, located on Galileu street in Terrassa. The meeting, which lasted just over fifteen minutes, concluded with Otero handing over a letter of resignation to his former board colleagues. This resignation brings an end to several months of tensions and disagreements regarding the management of the entity and the organization of its main race.
Officially, health issues have been the reason cited by Otero for his resignation. The five remaining board members were present at the meeting: Jaume Álvarez, Marina Cano, Màxim de Pablos, Alejandro Martín, and Maria Pujol. The association is known for organizing, among other athletic events, the Terrassa Half Marathon every January.
The new board is satisfied and eager to continue keeping the practice of athletics alive in the city.
The board of directors of the AE Mitja Marató de Terrassa is currently reviewing the economic and social situation of the entity. According to the statutes, Otero's successor should be the oldest director. In this context, Jaume Álvarez, former president of the Club Natació Terrassa, emerges as the main candidate to assume the presidency. Discussions are underway for him to accept the challenge of leading the association. The board plans to officially announce the new project and its new public face in the coming days through a press conference.
The possibility of Otero's resignation had already been raised a few months ago, initially alongside his vice-president, Rafa Morillo. The decision was postponed to finalize the accounts of the twenty-sixth edition of the race, held on February 1st. Finally, after weeks of deliberation, Otero decided to take the step. Morillo will also not continue as a member of the board of directors, although it has been agreed that he will serve as an advisor to the new board. Otero's son, Isaac Otero, who was in charge of organizing the last edition, has also left the entity.
