The first match of this double confrontation will take place on Friday at 8:00 p.m. in the Catalan capital. The second and final game will be played on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. at the Àrea Olímpica pool in Terrassa, a high-level event for the Vallès Occidental city.
This series of friendly matches serves as intensive preparation for the Spanish team, whose main objective is the European Championship to be held in Belgrade, Serbia, from January 10 to 25.
This high-profile clash pits the reigning Spanish champion in Singapore against the US national team, recent bronze medalist at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Both teams have conducted several joint training sessions this week at the CAR de Sant Cugat, culminating in these two international matches.
National coach David Martín has called up 20 players, including a strong presence from Terrassa. Noteworthy players are Bernat Sanahuja (CN Atlètic Barceloneta), Álvaro Granados (Italian Pro Recco), and Albert Sabadell (CN Terrassa). Furthermore, Svilen Piralkov, a former CN Terrassa water polo player, is part of the coaching staff as Martín's assistant.
Spain and the United States have not faced each other officially since the Tokyo 2021 Games, where the Spanish team won 12-8 in the quarterfinals. Since then, they have played five friendly matches, with a record of three victories for Spain and two for the Americans.
