The Plenary of the Consell Comarcal of Vallès Occidental has approved a motion to join the commemoration of the Millenary of the Peace and Truce Assemblies (1027-2027). The proposal, driven by the Parliament of Catalonia, received support from the comarcal groups of the PSC, ERC, Junts per Catalunya, En Comú Podem, Tot per Terrassa, and CAM AMUNT.
The commemoration recalls the year 1027, when in Toluges, in the County of Roussillon, one of the first Peace and Truce Assemblies was held, attended by Bishop Oliba de Vic. These assemblies are recognized as a pioneering institutional response to violence and power fragmentation, establishing spaces for collective deliberation and guarantees to protect people and property.
According to the motion, the Peace and Truce Assemblies are considered precursors to the Catalan parliamentary tradition and one of the earliest expressions of parliamentarism in Europe. Their legacy is linked to an institutional culture based on law, representation, participation, dialogue, and pact.
The approved text underscores the current relevance of the values associated with this tradition, such as peace, the defense of human rights, the dignity of individuals, dialogue, mediation, and a culture of agreement.
With this agreement, the Consell Comarcal commits to promoting events, awareness-raising sessions, and commemorative activities within the region, thereby reinforcing democratic values and a political culture based on dialogue and respect.
