Five Candidates Announced for Athlete of the Year at Terrassa Sports Gala

The 51st edition of the Lluís Francino i Riera Trophy, held at the Teatre Principal, will recognize the achievements of the 2025 season.

The 51st Sports Gala in Terrassa, scheduled for March 24, has revealed the five main nominees for the Lluís Francino i Riera Trophy, featuring prominent figures like Dani Olmo and Berta Abellan.

FC Barcelona footballer Dani Olmo Carvajal, champion of the Spanish Super Cup, Copa del Rey, and League in 2025, leads the list of five aspirants for the main award. He competes with TrialGP World Champion, Berta Abellan Marsiñach, who dominated the Women's X-Trial during the 2025 season.
Swimming and water polo have a strong presence among the finalists. CN Terrassa swimmer Hugo González de Oliveira is nominated after becoming European champion in the 200-meter individual medley and setting several national records in 2025. Also nominated are CN Atlètic Barceloneta water polo players Álvaro Granados Ortega, recognized as the best player in the world in 2025, and Bernat Sanahuja Carné, World Cup champion and MVP of the League final.
In addition to the main category, the gala on March 24, held at the Teatre Principal, will present awards in seven additional categories. These include the Athlete of the Year in Adapted Sport, with five nominees, including Jacobo Garrido Brun and Irache Torres Vaquero (Swimming), and the Promising Athlete of the Year, featuring Mustafa Chadlioui Harafi (Boxing) and Natàlia Escot Borrego (Football).
Regarding teams, competitors include the Club Egara women's first team (field hockey), champion of the Copa de la Reina, the Club Natació Terrassa men's swimming team, and the Terrassa Reds (American football), who achieved the best ranking in their history. Coaches Joan Vidal Larribeau, Sergi Mora Belmonte, and Oriol Torras Puig are also vying for recognition for their national and international successes.
