The Terrassa City Council, financed by the Agència Catalana de l’Aigua (ACA), has started vegetation clearing and cleaning works along the 4.4-kilometer urban stretch of the Riera del Palau.

This afternoon, the Mayor of Terrassa, Jordi Ballart, accompanied by Deputy Mayor Patrícia Reche and Deputy Mayor Xavier Cardona, visited the affected section. The area of action is located between the Pont de les Arts and the junction with the connecting roads of the N-150 and the C-58, near the courts.
The works, awarded to the company Hulex Gestión Ambiental S.L. for an amount of 43,708.21 euros, have an execution period of three months. The intervention is crucial for the management of the public hydraulic domain, owned by the ACA.

The main objective is to eliminate the allochthonous cane, an invasive species that compromises the stability of the slopes and reduces the hydraulic capacity of the riverbed.

The invasive species being targeted is the allochthonous cane (Arundo donax), which can be counterproductive to the stability of the slopes. Additionally, about seventy trees and shrubs that reduce the hydraulic capacity of the riverbed are being removed, facilitating the distribution of native reeds.
In total, nearly 10,000 m² of scrub and 821 m² of American cane will be cleared along the 4.4 kilometers. Following the initial phase, review and consolidation actions will be carried out until summer, including the removal of any American cane sprouts that may reappear.
