The Right to Die with Dignity Association (DMD) assisted 33 individuals and families in Terrassa during its first full year of activity in 2025, coinciding with a historic rise in Advance Directives registrations.

The DMD Catalonia 2025 Report reflects that the association's information point in Terrassa, operational since October 2024, provided individual or family support to 33 people throughout the year. This marks the first time the entity has conducted a full annual assessment in the city.
One of the most relevant facts is the exponential increase in Advance Directives (DVA). According to official data from March 2025, 4,294 DVA have been filed in Terrassa, a figure far exceeding the 176 DVA registered in 2021, the year the euthanasia law was approved.

"Presenting an Advance Directive is much easier now than in 2021. You can do it directly at the primary care center (CAP); without a notary and without witnesses. This fact has caused the numbers to increase significantly, and they will increase even more."

Montserrat Muntada · DMD Volunteer in Terrassa
Despite the surge, volunteer Montserrat Muntada pointed out that the current figure represents less than 1% of the total population of Terrassa. She stressed the need to accelerate the pace to catch up with European countries where the right to die with dignity is more advanced.
Regarding consultations, Muntada explained that DMD addresses all kinds of situations, from doubts about euthanasia requirements for relatives with mental illnesses to practical questions about drafting the DVA. She also mentioned that while healthcare staff training has improved, they still receive complaints about negative experiences when submitting the document at some CAPs.
