The Mayor of Terrassa, Jordi Ballart, activated the Municipal Emergency Plan (PEM) in alert phase on Friday morning, January 9, due to the forecast of widespread wind that could cause incidents in the city.

The decision was made based on warnings from the Catalonia Operational Coordination Center (CECAT) and forecasts from the Catalan Meteorological Service (SMC). These forecasts indicated strong wind gusts potentially exceeding 20 km/h, with moderate risk in Terrassa between 1 am and 7 pm, intensifying around noon.
Activating the plan in the alert phase involves immediate measures such as notifying action groups, coordinating municipal services, maintaining constant contact with CECAT, and assessing 112 calls. The opening of reception shelters is also considered if necessary.

The Terrassa City Council recommends avoiding outdoor activities, especially in tree-lined areas such as parks and gardens, and reducing unnecessary travel.

The council has issued self-protection advice, urging citizens to secure objects on balconies and terraces (doors, windows, awnings, pots). When driving, it is recommended to reduce speed and firmly hold the steering wheel, avoiding trips unless strictly essential.
