The Terrassa Territory and Housing Information Commission approved the file on Monday, January 19, to award the new green zone maintenance contract, with a total value of 26.3 million euros over the next five years.

The contracting file, which will be submitted to the next Municipal Plenary, received favorable votes from Tot per Terrassa, Junts, and ERC, while PSC, PP, and Vox abstained. The new maintenance contract will last four years plus an additional year, with a total operating value of 26,382,336.71 euros.
This figure represents an increase of 1.8 million euros compared to the current contract, which is in its extension year after being awarded on May 3, 2020. The contract execution budget will be 6,248,615.69 euros in the first year, rising to 6,970,505.72 euros in the fourth year.

"This increase responds to the expansion of urban surfaces that must be maintained by 2026, including new spaces and areas such as the Parc de la República, the AEG green zones, the BRCAT green zones, on the N-150 between Terrassa and Sabadell; the green zone of the Roc Blanc neighborhood, as well as other spaces that previously did not receive the desired intensity of maintenance."

The conservation of these new green spaces will also lead to an increase in the number of people responsible for maintenance, rising from 76 to 82 employees. Furthermore, the new contract anticipates a salary increase of 22% for the staff.
The service will be divided into four lots, segmenting the city into four zones: east sector, west sector, south sector (reserved for Special Work Centers of social initiative and insertion companies), and finally, the sector of the Parc de Vallparadís, the old town of Sant Pere, and the Seu precinct. The City Council emphasizes that the goal is “to keep the city clean and with adequate conservation of green spaces.”
